Sequim officials seek public comment on proposed shopping centers

SEQUIM — City officials are calling for comments on two proposals to build “big box” shopping centers on the west end of the city.
April 2 is the deadline for people to comment on Wal-Mart’s proposal for a two-phase development on the northwest corner of Washington Street and Priest Road.
The first phase of the Wal-Mart proposal is to build a 118,000-square-foot retail store followed by the addition of a grocery section.
When finished, the Wal-Mart store will have 183,917 square feet of retail space, according to documents filed with the city.
Wal-Mart only needs a building permit to complete the project because it is on land already zoned for commercial development.
City Planning Director Dennis Lefevre expects to issue a determination of non-significant on the environmental impact.
