SEQUIM — Sequim’s new superintendent of schools, Garn Christensen, 40, who was chosen to succeed Mike Joyner as superintendent Monday night, describes himself as an avid bicyclist.

“I enjoy long-distance touring, mostly solo,” Christensen said during a telephone interview Tuesday afternoon.

Christensen, who will be paid an annual salary of $106,000, said he and his wife discovered Sequim several years ago.

“We thought if anything ever came open here we’d apply for it,” Christensen said.
