Color, pageantry and tradition again marked Makah Days on Saturday, and more can be expected on the final day today.
The 78th annual Makah Days transforms Neah Bay into a celebration of culture as the tribe salutes its youth while honoring its elders.
For Peninsula residents and visitors wanting to experience Makah Days, it begins today at 8 a.m. and ends late this afternoon.
Here’s today’s schedule:
8 a.m.: Street fair resumes
10 a.m.: Men’s, women’s and buckskins’ canoe races
Noon: Softball tournament finals
1 p.m.: Fun runs, races, games for all ages
* Slahal tournament, Front Beach. (Slahal is a traditional team competition played with unmarked and marked bones. Team players take turns in guessing the other team’s unmarked bones while drumming and singing tries to distract them.)
