Port Angeles: City pledges improved fire, police for proposed annexation area

PORT ANGELES — Residents living east of the city would receive improved police and fire protection services if the area is annexed, city officials said Thursday night at a community forum.

“The costs of living in the city and outside of it are about the same, but you would be getting a higher level of service,” Police Chief Tom Riepe told a crowd of about 45 people at Roosevelt Junior High School.

If the city annexed the area from near DelGuzzi Drive to Morse Creek, it would become a separate police patrol sector with five patrol officers assigned to it, he said.

There’s also the potential of a combination police and fire department substation in the area if it is annexed, Riepe said.
