PORT ANGELES — Slain Clallam County Sheriff’s Deputy Wally Davis will be remembered today, the first anniversary of his fatal shooting.

A public ceremony is planned for 1 p.m. in Veterans Park, behind the Clallam County Courthouse.

The ceremony will include the posting of colors and raising of the flag by the Sheriff’s Honor Guard, and a brief speech by Sheriff Joe Hawe.

It will conclude with the ringing of the park’s Liberty Bell. The bell will ring 21 times in tribute, beginning at 1:39 p.m. — the time Davis died in the Olympic Memorial Hospital emergency room.

Davis, 48, was shot at close range with a shotgun, allegedly by Thomas Martin Roberts, shortly after 12:35 p.m. last Aug. 5.
