TRACK ROUNDUP: PA girls fourth, Sequim boys sixth at Shelton Invite

SHELTON — Going up against 39 schools, including 15 3A and 4A schools, the Port Angeles girls finished fourth overall at the Shelton Invitational Track and Field Meet.

The Port Angeles girls were the top 2A school at Saturday’s meet, bested only by Gig Harbor, Puyallup and Peninsula, 4A and 3A schools.

The Sequim boys finished sixth at the meet, and third-best among 2A or lower schools.

Port Angeles finished in the top 10 in eight events, with Gracie Long winning the 3,200-meter run in a season best 11 minutes, 21. 37 seconds. Her teammate Maddie Dougherty came in second with a personal-best 11:32.30. Long also finished second in the 800 meters with a personal record time of 2:22.93.

Sequim’s Murray Bingham won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:00.82 and came in second in the 1,600 meters at 4:30.20 and the mile run at 4:31.78. His teammate Riley Cowan won the javelin with a throw of 158 feet, 3 inches.

Sequim’s Elizabeth Sweet set a personal record in the pole vault at 10-6, good enough for second place.

The Sequim boys finished with 38 team points. Graham-Kapowsin won the event with 58 team points. The Port Angeles girls also had 38 team points. Winning the girls’ team event was Gig Harbor with 65.

Forks at BCS

BELLEVUE — Forks’ Cole Baysinger won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 0 inches at the BCS Track and Field Invitational at Interlake High School.

Saturday’s meet had athletes from more than 20 schools. Baysinger also finished third in the 100-meter run in 11.72 seconds and fourth in the discus with a throw of 134-5.

The Forks boys finished eighth out of 18 teams at the meet.

The best finish for the girls was by the 4×400 relay team (Madison Carlson, Sylvia Torres, Annhelica Wells and Kesia Rowley), which finished third with a time of 4:47.49.

Forks’ Azalea Ramos finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 30-9¾ and fourth in the javelin with a throw of 91-9. Enid Ensastegue also finished fourth in the 3,200 meters with a time of 12:46.09.
