PREP FOOTBALL: 2B Lyle-Wishram runs past Crescent

CRESCENT — Going up against a tough 2B school from south-central Washington, the Crescent Loggers had trouble handling a star running back and lost 60-0.

Lyle-Wishram, located along the Columbia River near The Dalles, plays an independent schedule because there are so few schools nearby to play and thus traveled all the way to Crescent for an eight-man game.

Lyle-Wishram’s offense revolves largely around its running back Brandon Montoya, who scored six touchdowns and four 2-point conversions for 44 total points.

Lyle-Wishram, because it is on the Oregon border, is going to join a league in Oregon next year.

Crescent’s Noah Leonard gained 41 net yards on 17 carries, while Braydon Emery rushed for 53 yards on nine carries. Branton Dalton caught two passes for 26 yards for the Loggers.

Coach Brian Shimko thoguth Malachi Treadway also played well on defense.

“He really stood out. For a freshman, he did really well,” Shimko said.

Crescent (1-2) will next play at Taholah (1-1) at 7 p.m. Friday. Taholah lost earlier this season 40-20 to Neah Bay.
