Basketball officials needed on Peninsula

PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Basketball Officials Association is recruiting men and women who would like to become junior high and high school basketball officials.

No experience is needed as all training is provided. The association covers both boys and girls games across the northern Olympic Peninsula and officials receive a game fee plus travel money.

An orientation session for new officials will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Vern Burton Center, 308 E. Fourth St.

City league hoops

PORT ANGELES — Registration is open for the Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Department’s Men’s Basketball League.

The league is open to men ages 18 and older.

Games will be played beginning the week of Sunday, Nov. 5, at Roosevelt Elementary School.

The cost is $700 per team and team packets are available at the Parks and Recreation office at the Vern Burton Center, 308 E. Fourth St.

Players without a team can call and be placed on a free agent list.

The deadline for registration is Friday, Oct. 20.

Youth basketball

PORT TOWNSEND — Junior hoops basketball registration with Jefferson County Parks and Recreation is underway.

The youth basketball program is open to children in Port Townsend, Port Hadlock, Chimacum, Quilcene and Brinnon.

Divisions include Pre-K and Kinder (coed) ($55-includes custom T-shirt); first and second grade ($60-includes custom T-shirt); and third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade ($80-includes a numbered, reversible jersey).

Those in grades three through six with jerseys from last season can deduct $20 from the registration fee.

The deadline to register is Nov. 1. Those who register after Nov. 1 will be placed on a wait list and incur a $10 late fee.

Volunteer coaches are also sought.
