Dump truck mishap closes Oak Bay Road for several hours

PORT LUDLOW — A driver was uninjured when dump truck went over an embankment Friday morning, knocking down several trees.

At 8 a.m. Friday, the dump truck, traveling down Oak Bay Road toward state Highway 19 went over an embankment near Phillips Road.

The truck went down approximately 20 feet into the trees, knocking several down.

The driver self-extricated and was not injured.

Port Ludlow Fire Chief Brad Martin closed the road to through traffic at approximately 8:20 a.m.

The road remained closed on Oak Bay Road from Highway 19 to Breaker Lane for several hours while first responders and county road crews were on scene.

At the time of the incident, a saddle diesel tank came loose from the truck and caused about 75 gallons of diesel to spill into a ditch.

The Department of Ecology was notified of the spill and responded to the scene.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue, Indian Island Engine 91 and the Jefferson County Roads Department all responded to the scene.
