LETTER: Thanks to students who stand up for Second Amendment

A big thank you to our young people from Sequim High School and other schools throughout our country who participated in the “Stand for the Second” movement (“Sequim High students walk out for right to bear arms,” PDN, May 4).

They are old enough to realize guns are not the problems, but certain people are.

It is students like Garrett Wehr, Will Riley and Breelynn Bennett who see the big picture of our Second Amendment, giving us the right to bear arms in the United States of America, land of the free.

These are just a few of our young people who will be among the brave and sensible thinking “first responders,” if and when we ever have a local or national disaster.

Having a gun will provide food (deer, elk, ducks, etc.) and protection for their families as well as for their communities, if the need arises.

We finally have a president, President Donald J. Trump, who respects our military and our law enforcement by not only giving them the needed tools, vehicles and weapons to protect our country and its people, but allowing them to actually use them if necessary.

For too long, these people were told to “stand down.”

Participants in the Stand for the Second: Thank you again, and know many people in our country stand with you.

Shirley Berg,

Sequim
