The Peninsula Daily News contends under the heading of Have Your Say, “We will not publish letters that impugn the personal character of people or groups of people.” I like that. I don’t think the newspaper should be a forum for individuals to disparage a minority group.
Thus I am wondering why the hateful letter which disparaged the LGBT community (July 9) was published. The letter writer referred to “these people” which in itself should be a clue to the intolerance.
The question is does the Peninsula Daily News adhere to their policy or were they simply paying lip service to those of us who, while supporting free speech, do not think the newspaper should be the forum to spew hate speech?
