LETTER: Forget grand hopes for peace, goodwill

No peace, goodwill

I realized after reading “Legally or else” (PDN, Jan. 1) that any grand thoughts of peace and goodwill will never happen — not on Earth, not in Washington, D.C., and especially not here.

The writer condones the use of “guns and ammunition” to get a message across: if you are fleeing your land, don’t come to America or we’ll kill you.

If Joseph and Mary had fled their land in 2019, the baby Jesus might have been shot dead at our border.

Recognizing the writer’s contempt for those not like her, even if a ridiculous wall were built around the whole country, what do you do with the Democrats inside?

Well, if it’s any consolation to her, U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer prides himself on reaching across the aisle to work with Republicans.

In fact, Kilmer voted to give President Donald Trump even more money than asked for in the military budget.

I believe Kilmer, chair of the centrist, pro-business New Democrat Coalition, has more in common with Republicans than those Democrats fighting to save Social Security and Medicare.

I strongly dispute the writer’s claim that the economy is great under President Trump.

This is today’s America.
