LETTER: Exercise for your life

Start 2019 healthier

Move as though your life depends on it, because it does.

The kind of life we each cherish, one of independence, is a direct result of true and effective daily exercise.

Down deep, we all know that just being busy, just walking the dog down the block, just parking the car at the end of the parking lot of the store is not enough activity to become stronger and less vulnerable to a fall.

Down deep, we all know we need to move as though your life depends on it, because it does.

Independence is being able to take your own shower, to walk to the kitchen without falling, to be able to walk in the store and choose your own groceries, to hold the hand of a loved one in the park.

Start being healthier in 2019 today, move as though your life depends on it, because it does.

Stymied by collusion

Although the jury is still out on Colin Kaepernick’s lawsuit asserting collusion by NFL owners to keep him out of the league, the truth has been confirmed by my hometown team, the Washington Redskins and its owner, Dan Snyder.

Having lost their starting quarterback to a gruesome injury, they turned to players who could be credibly referred to as the bottom of the barrel.

The last one had not thrown a pass in the NFL since 2011.

Since then, the team has lost its perch at the top of their conference and is sinking like a rock in the ocean.

Yet Kaepernick, who took his team to the top of the NFC when he played for the San Francisco 49ers, remains unemployed by an NFL team.

The NFL says that character matters.

Yet the Redskins, a perennial circus since Snyder bought the team, picked up a player who was accused of domestic violence.

Tampa Bay drafted a player who was accused of rape and shoplifting.

Kaepernick’s crime?

Peacefully protesting violence towards people of color by people hired to protect all Americans.

He dared to use his position as a high-profile player to protest during our national anthem.

As a response by NFL owners who are too repulsed by his politics to have him lead their team to a possible championship, his athletic talent and skill have been sidelined and stymied by their obvious collusion.
