LETTER: Believe that our paths in life are determined by the many choices we make

I am pro-choice.

I believe that our paths in life are determined by the many choices we make.

In fact, our Declaration of Independence affirms individual choice from tyranny, either church or state.

The choice to terminate a pregnancy, no matter how that pregnancy came to be, could not ever be an easy choice.

But, in the United States of America I believe women should have good healthful options and not be forced to go underground for their medical choices.

And anyone who believes that making abortions illegal will stop them, I would suggest that you look at how Prohibition ended drunkenness.

Another fact that is little known, for those who, for religious reasons, choose to believe that life (and thus the soul entering the body) begins at conception, I would refer you to St. Thomas Aquinas, one of the foremost authorities of the Catholic Church.

His opinion was that “the embryo or fetus is not a human life with a soul until a particular event after conception.”

That event, according to St. Thomas Aquinas, was at the quickening, defined by Aristotle as 40 days for boys and 80 days for girls.

(Look it up. It is true!)
