WOMEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Peninsula crushes Everett 11-0

PA’s Anna Petty two goals and an assist

PORT ANGELES — Ten different Peninsula College women’s soccer players found the net as the Pirates showcased their depth in a dominant 11-0 shutout over the Everett Trojans on Wednesday afternoon at Wally Sigmar Field.

Port Angeles product Anna Petty led the way with two goals and an assist, but it was a well-distributed offensive outburst to be sure.

Sydney Soskis was involved in much of the offensive build-up early in the match along the right wing, contributing two assists and a goal of her own inside of the first 20 minutes of play.

It was all Peninsula from early on.

In the eighth minute, Alexia Rodriguez-Burdeaux sent the ball out wide to Soskis along the right side. Soskis went 1-on-1 against the Trojans defender before crossing the ball from right to left inside the Everett goal box. The ball deflected softly out to Rodriguez-Burdeaux who calmly poked the ball to the right of the goalkeeper for a 1-0 Pirates lead.

Petty followed up in the 10th minute with a good run up the left side into the box and was taken down via an Everett forearm shiver, earning a penalty kick, which she promptly buried in the net.

Petty also was involved in the most stylish goal of the game in the 13th minute.

Blake Plummer’s throw in went up the right side to Petty. Petty then spun around the Everett defender, cut through the goal box and laid the ball off to a wide-open Taya Bohenko for a tap-in goal and a 3-0 lead.

Rodriguez-Burdeaux sent a long pass up through two Trojans defenders to Soskis and Soskis crossed the ball right to left in front of the goal, missing Petty but finding Briana-Jean Tanaka waiting to knock the ball home for a 4-0 lead in the 18th minute.

Soskis added her goal on a short shot in front of the box assisted by Bohenko to go up 5-0.

Shawna Larson and Desiree Dutra also added unassisted goals in the 36th and 45th minutes, respectively.

Second-half scores came from Caneel Corpuz (48th), Petty (51st), Jaeda Mae Edayan, assisted by Brooke Reiber (76th) and Maylin Rivera, assisted by Reiber (86th).

Petty and Tanaka already have five goals in just seven games, both of them leading the NWAC. Larson is right behind with four.

Peninsula (2-0-0, 7-0-0) visits Whatcom on Saturday.
