PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula women outrebounded Edmonds nearly 2-to-1 and got a monster game from Jenise McKnight, who scored 16 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, in a 73-54 win.

Edmonds came into Saturday’s game 0-16, but the Tritons actually gave the Pirates a bit of trouble early and were down just a point in the second quarter. But, a Peninsula 40-20 run to the end of the third quarter to make the score 58-38 put the game away.

Taisha Thomas scored 13 points and Anaya Rodisha added 12 points. McKnight and Rodisha appear to have fully recovered from a scary incident 10 days ago in which they were both kicked in the knee on the same play and were unable to put weight on their legs afterward.

Tiffani Smith added nine points and three steals for the Pirates.

The Pirates dominated the boards, outrebounding the Tritons 67-34. In addition to McKnight’s 17 boards, Yamelei Rodriguez added eight rebounds and Rodisha seven. All those rebounds added up to 79 shots for the Pirates versus just 59 for Edmonds.

McKnight is now up to 8.7 rebounds per game and it was her second huge rebounding night for the Pirates. She had 24 boards earlier this season against Columbia Basin.

Peninsula remains tied for first place in the North Division at 5-1 (13-6 overall). The Pirates’ next game is at home at 5 p.m. against Whatcom.
