PREP ROUNDUP: Forks wrestlers win Evergreen Dual Tourney

FORKS — For the fifth straight year, Forks is the champion of the Evergreen 1A League Dual Tournament, beating four other schools in the all-day event.

“Our wrestlers did step up and wrestle some of the best matches that they have had during the whole season. This was very good to see because we have had a tough three weeks of sick wrestlers, hurt wrestlers and wrestlers missing practice to make sure grades were going to be good for the semester,” said coach Robert Wheeler.

“Everyone knew that this day was important since we had won our league dual meet championship the past four years,” he said.

Wheeler said it’s been difficult this year to get all the Forks wrestlers together all at the same time for various reasons to have good workouts, so the league dual results are especially satisfying.

“They did put everything together today. Hopefully, this is a good sign that they are going to be peaking at the right time for the postseason tournaments that are coming up for the next three weeks,” he said.

Eight Forks wrestlers went undefeated on the day, while 11 out of 12 won at least two matches.

Forks beat Hoquaim 49-15, Tenino 60-12, Elma 51-15 and Montesano 42-27.

170 — Kenny Gale, 4-0.

182 — Ryan McGraw, 4-0 with one forfeit.
