TRACK AND FIELD: Neah Bay boys, Clallam Bay girls win league titles

JOYCE — Neah Bay’s Cameron Buzzell and Isaac Jay Brunk combined for seven first-place finishes to help lead the Red Devils to the boys’ 1B North Olympic League track and field title.

Meanwhile, the Clallam Bay girls’ relay teams won all its events Thursday as the Bruins dominated the girls championships.

Buzzell won the 100-meter dash (11.95 seconds), the 200-meter dash (24.53) the 400-meter run (53.92) and ran the anchor leg for the Red Devils’ 4×100-winning relay team (48.23). Anthony Bitegeko, Logan Haltutunen and Chris Tageant were also a part of the 4×100.

In the distance events, Buzzell’s teammate Brunk won the 800-meter run (2:33.11), the 1,600-meter run (5:22.50) and the 3,200-meter run (13.25.10).

The Clallam Bay girls won the 4×100, the 4×200 and the 4×400 relays. Atokena Abe, Molly McCoy, Miriam Wonderly and Jennica Maines combined to finish the 4×100 in 54.54, which is the third-fastest girls’ 4×100 time at the Class 1B level this year.

Abe, Wonderly, Hannah Olsen and Kendra Anderson won the 4×200 (1:58.59, a top 8 time statewide), while Olsen, Anderson, McCoy and Wonderly won the 4×400 (4:42.27, a top 7 time statewide).

Maines also won the 100-meter run (13.85) and the high jump (5 feet, 0 inches, fourth best in the state), while Olson won the 300-meter hurdles (57.32) and the long jump (14-6).

Other multiple event winners for the boys were Clallam Bay’s Ryan McCoy, who won the 300-meter hurdles (47.07) and the high jump (5-6) and Crescent’s Ryan McNeese, who won the shot put with a put of 42-0 and the discus with a throw of 123-10.

For the girls, Clallam Bay’s Sidney Smith won both the 800 meters (3:01.10) and the 1,600 meters (6:31.04).

This event was not the Tri-Districts qualifier. That will be held Thursday at the District 3 Sub-District meet at Crescent High School with the same three schools participating.

• Shot Put — Raine Westfall, Crescent, 32-9 1/2 (sixth best in the state).

• Discus — Ashara Dodson, Crescent, 100-11 (Dodson has a No. 3 discus throw in the state at 106-5.).

• Javelin — McKenzie Brannan, Crescent, 103-4 (seventh best in the state).

• Triple Jump — Abe, Clallam Bay, 32-6 1/2.
