PREP VOLLEYBALL: Sequim clinches second place in league

Vaara 17 kills and six aces in 3-0 win over Bremerton

SEQUIM — Getting a huge game from Jolene Vaara, the Sequim volleyball team clinched its second-place position with a 3-0 (25-7, 25-10, 25-11) win Tuesday on senior night over Bremerton.

The Wolves were able to clinch thanks to North Mason (5-8) upsetting Kingston (7-6), giving Sequim a two-game lead over Kingston with a final league match today at Kingston.

Senior Vaara, playing in her final home match for the Wolves, had 17 kills and served 13-for-14 with six aces. She had a 10-point run at one point, including five aces in a row.

Sydney Clark also served 9-for-9 with 10 assists, while Brianna Palenik served 15-for-16 with a 13-point run. Arianna Stovall served 8-for-11 with three aces, a six-point run and five kills. Sydney Hegtvedt served 6-for-6.

The Wolves (9-4, 9-5) will have a lot of days to practice. They wait until Sunday to see their seeding in the 2A Bi-District Tournament, which will begin Nov. 3 at Foster and Sammamish high schools.

Bainbridge 3, Port Angeles 0

BAINBRIDGE — Bainbridge defeated Port Angeles 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-18), though Port Angeles gave the 3A Spartans a tough time in the second and third sets.

Josephine Edgington had two aces and two kills and served a 7-0 run. Mary Halberg had four aces, three kills and seven digs, while Jasmine Messinger had three block assists and Natalie Tenneson had two block assists.

“They played well against Bainbridge. Good rallies,” said coach Alyssa Wetzler. “Bainbridge is a great serving team.”

Port Angeles (3-10, 3-11) has a good chance to end the regular season on a winning note, next playing at Bremerton (0-13, 0-14) on Friday.

Crescent 3, Clallam Bay 0

JOYCE — Crescent prevailed over Clallam Bay 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-13) on Tuesday to improve to 9-3 on the season.

The Loggers served 83 percent. Chloe Ferro-May had eight kills, while Hayden Horn had 12 assists as setter and served 92 percent. Payton Fieldsend and Katelyn Dunavant each had seven aces.

Crescent (4-1, 9-3) hosts No. 1-ranked Neah Bay (6-0) at 5:45 p.m. today in the Loggers’ final regular-season match.
