PREP TRACK: Roughrider girls win Li’l Norway

POULSBO — Thanks to 22 top 10 finishes, the Port Angeles girls won the Li’l Norway Track and Field meet in Poulsbo, edging out host and Olympic League 2A Division rival North Kitsap for the title.

The Roughrider girls beat out 19 other schools, including three 3A and 4A schools, for the title.

Port Angeles’ Emma Albright won the 200-meter run with a personal record time of 27.47 seconds, narrowly beating Port Townsend Anika Avelino, who also ran a personal best 27.94.

Gracie Long won the 1,600-meter run with a season record time of 5:12.86. That is the fourth-best 1,600 time in 2A in the entire state this season. Millie Long won the 300-meter hurdles in 47.21, a personal record and the sixth-best time statewide in that event for the freshman.

Perhaps the most impressive performance of the day, however, was by Port Townsend’s Aubry Botkin, who won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.39 seconds, her best hurdle time of the season. That is just 1/100th of a second off her second-place finish at the state 1A meet last year and is the best 1A 100 hurdle time of the year statewide this season.

Sequim’s Elizabeth Sweet also won the pole vault with a height of 10 feet, 0 inches.

For the boys, Sequim finished a solid third at the meet out of 17 schools, thanks to 14 top 10 finishes.

The Wolves’ Riley Martin won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.48 seconds. That isn’t his best time of the season, but Martin does have the second-fastest 110 hurdle time in the state right now at 15.14 seconds.

Sequim’s Riley Cowan won the javelin with a distance of 145-4 and Port Angeles’ Liam Clark won the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 2 1/4 inches. Port Angeles coach Robert Sheedy name Clark the Roughrider athlete of the meet for his 20-foot jump, his best of the year.
