Girls Soccer Port Angeles 6, Bremerton 1

BREMERTON — The Port Angeles girls soccer team dominated Bremerton on the road 6-1 to maintain its position in third place in the Olympic League 2A Division, just a half-game out of first place.

Emilia Long scored a hat trick Thursday to give her 12 goals on the season in her freshman year.

“Millie has a nose for scoring, plus the speed and leg strength to put the ball in the back of the net. We’ve been working with all of our forwards to focus on the quality finish— and the team did that tonight,” said coach Scott Moseley.

Not to be outdone, sophomore Delaney Wenzl scored her eighth goal of the year late in the first half, taking a Lola DelGuzzi-Flores pass and finishing strong past the Bremerton goalie.

Midfielder Kyrsten McGuffey scored in the 43rd minute after some quick footwork freed her up in front of the goal.

“Kyrsten’s goal was another example of a solid finish after her individual effort to get in front of goal,” said Moseley.

The Riders’ defense was strong, holding Bremerton to only two shots on goal.

Moseley also praised the team’s offensive output this season, noting that their 48 goals are the most a Rider team has scored since 2000.

“Credit is due to the girls with assists tonight. Sierra Robinson [two assists], Emily Boyd, [DelGuzzi-Flores] and Cheyenne Wheeler serving up nice passes for their teammates makes it easier to score,” Moseley said.

Port Angeles (6-2, 8-4) faces a couple of tough challenges this week. They play first-place 7-2 Olympic on the road Tuesday then the Riders host rival Sequim at 6:45 p.m. Thursday. Port Angeles lost to Olympic 1-0 and beat Sequim 1-0 earlier this season in a game that could have gone either way.
