The Rangers claimed all three sets in commanding fashion 25-10, 25-12, 25-13.

“The league opener against Mount Rainier Lutheran allowed us to use many of our options and [we] had really good serve-receive skills tonight,” Quilcene coach Joni Crowell said following Tuesday’s game.

“They played as a team and our serving definitely improved over our last game.”

Alex Johnson had perfect serving for the Rangers, going 9 for 9, while Allison Jones (11/12) and Megan Weller (10/11) also served over 90 percent.

Katie Bailey led the team with seven aces to go along with 17 of 20 serving. Weller had six aces.

The Riders JV team won in three sets 23-25, 25-19, 25-19.

Port Angeles (1-0, 1-1) hosts Bremerton (0-1) tonight.

PORT TOWNSEND — The Redhawks played the Buccaneers tight before falling in Olympic League action Tuesday.

Kaitlyn Meek tied the game with a goal for Port Townsend in the 32nd minute to even the score at 1-1.

“Kaitlyn Meek made some powerful runs on the Kingston goal and was rewarded with a fine equalizing goal after collecting a throw in from Hannah Marx,” Port Townsend coach Colin Foden said.

“Kaitlyn could perhaps have scored more as she broke way a couple more times, but no doubt she will as the season goes on.”

Meek’s goal was the first for the Redhawks this season.

The match looked like it would remain tied going into halftime, but the Buccaneers scored right before intermission to take a 2-1 lead.

They added to their lead a minute into the second half and sat on that cushion for the remainder of the match.

“[Goalkeeper] Malia Henderson again received accolades from the opposing coach and the officials. One left-handed diving save in particular was first-class,” Foden said.

“Lots of standout performances, but Hannah Wilson, McKinzie Ginther, Rosemary D’Andrea and Rrutenna Ramires are improving very rapidly.”

Port Townsend (0-2, 0-3) plays at Bremerton (0-1) today.

Montesano swept both boys and girls races held Tuesday on the grounds of the Olympic Natural Resources Center.

“I tend to think Montesano is probably the best program in the district this year, especially their girls team,” Spartans coach Brian Weekes said.

“We were without some of our top runners today, so I think it could have swung our way.”

The Bulldogs boys earned 37 points, the Spartans were second with 43, with Hoquiam (68) and Aberdeen (74), taking third and fourth, respectively.

Hugo Lucas was fourth overall for Forks, finishing in 19:55, and Austin Pegram was eighth with a time of 20.48.5.
