JOYCE — The East Jefferson volleyball team got big matches from Penina Vailolo and Sophia Petta in getting past a good Crescent squad 3-0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-21).
Vailolo had nine kills and five blocks, while Petta had 37 digs and five blocks.
It was the first win of the season for the Rivals, who lost a five-set match to Seattle Christian last week 3-2.
East Jefferson (1-1) plays Charles Wright at 6:30 p.m. today in Chimacum.
It was Crescent’s first loss of the year as the Loggers’ record dropped to 3-1. Crescent plays at 6 p.m. next Monday at Quilcene.
Oyster Run results
QUILCENE —More than 180 competitors took part in this year’s Quilcene Oyster Run held in and around Quilcene this weekend.
Winning the men’s half-marathon (13 miles) was John Berta of Seattle in a time of 1 hours, 33 minutes, 15.52 seconds. Finishing second was Garett Nakamoto of Seattle in 1:42:32.28 and third was Scott Potter of Port Orchard in a time of 1:44.21.74.
The top woman in the half-marathon was Vevy Sisson of Seabeck in a time of 1:54.09.22. Second was Adrianna Hulscher of Seattle in a time of 1:58.18.13 and third was Meaghan Driscoll of Tacoma in 2:03:18.82.
Josh Sacks of Seattle won the 10K in a time of 38:10.51, while Robert Huehn of Poulsbo was second at 40:24.07 and Michael Donne of Port Orchard third at 40:41.03.
Amy Schmitz of Bainbridge Island was the top women’s finisher in the 10K in 43:13.00. Nicole Park of Seattle was second at 47:54.97 and Christy Holman of Bremerton was third at 51:53.86.
Quilcene’s own Camille Shiflett was first in the 5K in a time of 19:22.52. Second in the 5K and the top men’s finisher was Max Canterbury of Quilcene in 25:20.49 and third in the 5K was a 10-year-old girl, A. James (full names are not available for runners under 13) of Lilliwaup, in a time of 25:34.90.
Pickleball courts done
PORT ANGELES — It’s time to grab your paddles and head to the courts at the Elks Playfield in Port Angeles.
The Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Department announced the completion of the pickleball court renovation at Elks Playfield. The upgrade included asphalt repairs on the two center courts and a full resurfacing of all six courts, ensuring a high-quality experience for all pickleball players.
This project was made possible by a $30,000 donation from a private citizen. The city of Port Angeles contributed the remaining funds, for a total project cost of $43,015.50. All renovation work was completed by Rainbow Sweepers, Inc., of Port Angeles.
The newly renovated courts are now open and ready for use.
Sunland Women’s Club
SEQUIM — Trish and Dave Bekkavar decorated their famous rooster and loaned it to the Sunland Women’s Golf Club to help them raise money to fight cancer. Their Drive For A Cure tournament will be held Saturday at Sunland Golf Course. All funds will go to help local people.
