“These athletes represented Port Angeles with grit and determination against some of the best competition in the state,” said head coach Casey McDonald. “Their hard work and consistency are paying off, and I’m proud of the way they continue to grow and compete.”

The Roughriders continue their season at the Mount Tahoma Track Festival on Saturday in Tacoma.

Boys Soccer East Jefferson 3, Northwest School 1

SEATTLE — The East Jefferson boys soccer team got back on the winning track with a 3-1 victory over The Northwest School on Monday.

With the victory, the Rivals improve to 5-2-1 on the season. East Jefferson has only played two matches in the past two weeks and it was the Rivals’ first win since March 22.

Coach Logan Stegner said the team started slowly. “But we finished the last 60 minutes really strong.”

“We played well. Northwest comes from a pretty competitive league,” he said.

Simon Barlow scored a pair of goals for the Rivals, while Manaseh Lanphear Ramirez also had a goal. They were all unassisted. Emilio Lopez picked up the victory in goal.

The Rivals have one nonleague game left, played Tuesday after press deadline in Granite Falls. East Jefferson (0-1, 5-2-1) plays exclusively Nisqually League matches beginning Thursday with a game at Cascade Christian, which is unbeaten, untied and leading the league (2-0-0, 5-0-0).

“That’s going to be a big test,” Stegner said.
