PORT TOWNSEND — East Jefferson sophomore Lane Liske led the Rivals with a nine-hole round of 44 in the first East Jefferson Invitational at Port Townsend Golf Course.
“Lane’s golf game is improving greatly,” coach Terry Khile said. “He had two bad holes to finish with the 44, so he has the ability to go lower. I really would like to have him make it to state. As a 10th grader his future looks good.”
Wilder Lewis posted a 55 for East Jefferson while teammates Tyler (57) and Nate (61), good enough for a tie for fourth in the six-team event with Nisqually League foe Klahowya at 217 strokes.
Annie Wright and Charles Wright tied for the boys team title with scores of 183.
Sweet lifts Sequim
SEQUIM — Ben Sweet went low, posting a round of 2-under-par 34, to lead Sequim to a 159-166 Olympic League boys golf triumph over Class 3A Bainbridge at The Cedars at Dungeness on Thursday.
“Ben played well from the opening drive,” coach Sean O’Mera said. “He smoked a driver right at the green, chipped up to 2 feet, and made an easy birdie. From there, he would birdie hole No. 5 and No. 6. It was a solid round for Ben, yet it wasn’t anything spectacular. Ben has been working hardest on mindset, and today there is no doubt it payed off. He continued on to play the back nine, and ended up shooting a 2-under-par 70.”
Pryce Glasser added a 39.
“Pryce played better than his score, lipping more than a few putts for birdie,” O’Mera said. “Pryce’s continual team-first attitude is such an asset to our team.”
Dominic Riccobene’s round of 40 and Cole Smithson’s 46, rounded out the scores for Sequim.
Sequim ((7-0) visits Bremerton on Tuesday.

Nate Anderson was two strokes back with a 42, Phoenix Flores added a 44 and Austin Worthington a 47 for Port Angeles.
The Riders (6-2) will visit North Mason on Tuesday.
Girls Golf Port Angeles 214, Bremerton 256
PORT ANGELES — Piper Williams opened her round with six consecutive pars on her way to earning match medalist honors with a new career-best 43 Thursday at Peninsula Golf Club.
Williams trimmed five shots off her previous best.
“Her previous low round of 48 was set last week against Sequim,” coach Mike DuPuis said. “All her hard work seems to be paying off at just the right time as state qualifying starts in a couple of weeks.”
DuPuis said Lauryn Chapman also has been playing some of her best golf of late.
“After posting a 50 at the difficult White Horse course Tuesday, she backed that up with a fine round of 53,” DuPuis said. She was followed by Katie Marchant’s 57 and Mia Neff had a 61.”
Port Angeles (6-2) plays at North Mason on Tuesday.

BREMERTON — The Trojans earned the walk-off win over, getting an RBI double on an 0-2 count off sophomore pitcher Colton Romero with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.
“It was a tough one, honestly,” coach Casey Dietz said. “A tight game the whole way and we missed a spot on a pitch, gave a kid a chance to get a bat on the ball and it was one of their really good hitters and he made us pay.”
“You hate to give up anything on an 0-2 count, so we will continue to address that when we get ahead of hitters we are pitching smart and not allowing the hitter to be in position to hurt us.”
Due to wet weather, the game was played on a turf field with irregular dimensions.
Port Angeles opened with a 2-0 lead, but struggled at the plate the rest of the way.
“Beckett [Jarnagin] led oiff with a double, Elijah [Flodstrom] flied out and John [Vaara] hit a two-run homer and that was about it besides some scattered hits,” Dietz said. “I don’t want to think our approaches changed, but when you are playing on a field where you can hear a conversation at home plate from center field, that may be what happened.”
Port Angeles (4-4, 6-7) has a busy week ahead, beginning with a trip to league-leading Bainbridge (8-1, 11-1) on Monday.
