BOYS BASKETBALL: Crescent holds off Quilcene comeback

JOYCE — The Crescent boys basketball team improved to 8-1 on the season, fending off a comeback attempt from Quilcene in a 54-46 victory.

“That was an intense ball game. We really played well in the first half defensively and were able to create a cushion, which was a good thing, because we gave almost all of it back in the second half,” said coach Chris Ferrier.

We started fouling a lot and the third quarter was a parade to the free-throw line. We also got to the line a lot but didn’t convert and we had opportunities to put the game away, but credit to [Quilcene coach] Alphonso [Ware], he did a great job getting Quilcene ready to play us again. It was a physical, scrappy game like it always is with Quilcene,” Ferrier said.

Crescent got up 29-8 at the half, but Quilcene outscored the Loggers 38-25 in the second half.

Lukas Love led the Loggers with 15 points, 12 rebounds and five steals, while Quilcene was led by Taylor Boling with 25 points.

Henry Bourm scored 14 and Conner Bauers 13 for the Loggers. Bourm scored all of Crescent’s baskets in the fourth.

“Peyton Watson had a really darn good game guarding [Quilcene’s] big guy [6-foot-3] Boling, who is a darn fine basketball player and hit everything he shot on the night,” Ferrier said. “We get to learn that we have to finish games and adjust to how the game is being called and we will be just fine.”

The Loggers play Shoreline Christian at home at 5:30 p.m. today.

Quilcene (2-6) hosts Mary M. Knight at 7 p.m. today.
