Port Angeles’ Tristin Butler helped his Roughrider swim team to another successful showing at the state 2A swimming championships.

Butler finished sixth at state in the 500-yard freestyle, seventh in the 200 individual medley and helped the Port Angeles boys’ 400 freestyle relay team finish 11th. Butler helped earn 37 of the Port Angeles swim team’s 55 points at state, which was good enough for 14th place.

More impressively, Butler’s time in the 500 freestyle — 4 minutes, 52.30 seconds — broke a 35-year-old Port Angeles High School record in that event. His 200 IM time of 2:03.71 was the fifth-fastest in school history.

The Athlete of the Week is brought to you by the sports department at the Peninsula Daily News along with the sponsorship of Swain’sGeneral Store serving Clallam and Jefferson counties since 1957.
