ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Paige Mason, Port Angeles basketball

Port Angeles’ Paige Mason has been a big part of the Roughriders girls basketball team for the past three years and is getting especially hot at the right time of the year during her senior season.

Mason had her best game of the season on Feb. 6 in a 74-46 win over Sequim. She scored 26 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and had five steals to help the Riders clinch a share of the Olympic League title.

She led the Riders in scoring again on Thursday with 14 points and four steals as Port Angeles beat Bremerton 53-36 to win the league title outright.

Mason is averaging 16.8 points a game over her past four games, all victories, as Port Angeles gained the No. 2 seed in the bidistrict tournament.

The Riders just need to win one playoff game over No. 7 Foster at home Wednesday to earn a berth at the state 2A tournament.
