Riders Hoops tournament a success

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles fell in the varsity championship while Sequim knocked off North Kitsap for the JV title at the first Roughrider Summer Classic basketball tournament over the weekend.

Roughriders head coach Kasey Ulin said the tournament was well-attended and 11 teams participated, including squads from Port Angeles, Sequim, Port Townsend, Forks, Bremerton, North Kitsap and Sedro-Woolley.

Sedro-Woolley topped Port Angeles 55-45 in the varsity title game while Sequim took down North Kitsap 52-40 in the JV championship.

“This completed our summer basketball season,” Ulin said.

“Overall, we had 33 players turn out and played over 40 games in tournaments throughout the state.”

3-on-3 tourney

PORT ANGELES — A three-on-three basketball tournament will be held at the Port Angeles High School gym on Saturday.

Teams can register between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Saturday. The fee is $60 per team and the tournament will have a double-elimination format.

There will be boys and girls divisions for third through fifth grades, sixth through eighth grade, high school and men’s and women’s divisions for adults ages 18 and older.

Proceeds will benefit the Port Angeles boys basketball program.

BMX track busy

PORT ANGELES — Lincoln Park BMX will race to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on Saturday and host a state championship qualifier Sunday.

Sign up for Saturday’s Race for Life event from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., with racing immediately following.

This is a double-points race and the funds raised will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. USABMX has donated over $4million to the cause.

Registration for Sunday’s state championship qualifier will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with racing following.

The cost is $25 per entry for this double-points race.

Youth football

CHIMACUM — Chimacum youth football registration and gear pick up will be held at H.J. Carroll Park, 9884 Rhody Drive, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6 and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9.

League admins will collect registration packets, fees and a refundable gear deposit.

Athletes will be fitted for helmets and chin straps, mouth guards, shoulder pads, rib protectors, practice gear and game uniforms.

Youth cheer registration

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Cheerleading will hold sign ups for youth cheerleaders in grades one through eight at the Vern Burton Center, 308 E. Fourth St., from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1 and Thursday, Aug. 3.

The registration fee is $75. Uniform fitting will occur at each registration event.

Sequim soccer sign up

SEQUIM — Fall registration for Sequim Junior Soccer runs through Saturday, Aug. 5.

The league fields teams by age with U6, U8, U10, U12 and U14 squads.

Little kickers, for 3-year olds, also is accepting registration.

Fees are $40 for U6’s eight-game season and $45 for the 10-game season for U8-U14 teams.

The Little Kickers fee is $35 for a six-game schedule.

Registration fees rise by $10 beginning Sunday.

Those who register after Aug. 5 will be placed on a waiting list.

Sequim hoops camp

SEQUIM — Sequim Youth Basketball will host a camp for boys and girls Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 14-15 at Rick Kaps Gymnasium at Sequim High School.

The registration fee is $50.

Parents and guardians can fill out player registrations and medical waivers on site.

Kids in grades one through four will camp from 9 a.m. to noon.

Those in grades five through eight will go from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Players should bring a basketball, water bottle and court shoes.
