WEEKEND: Port Townsend Film Festival throwing Oscar gala Sunday

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Film Festival is throwing an Oscar gala and auction Sunday night, and you don’t even have to get dressed up to attend.

The Black Tie, Blue Jeans, Red Carpet Oscar Gala will be from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Northwest Maritime Center, 431 Water St.

Advance tickets are $85. Tickets were still available as of Thursday.

To order, call 360-379-1333 or go online at www.ptfilmfest.com.

“It’s the best Oscar party ever,” the film festival says on its website.

“And you can wear whatever you want to. Even a costume.”

Guests can quaff complimentary champagne, participate in a “not-so-silent” auction and enjoy dinner while watching an Academy Awards simulcast from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Evening host

Dinner tables will encircle a center stage where Luke Burbank, CBS and NPR comedian, will host the evening.

The celebration will begin at 3:30 p.m. with champagne, appetizers and music by the Rex Reed Jazz Trio.

Participants can watch stars arrive on the red carpet beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Cigarette Girls will make the rounds selling raffle tickets.

An open bar will be available from 3:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

At 5 p.m., dinner will be served from the Silverwater Cafe. The meal will include a cheese course and dessert from Pane d’Amore, as well as Elevated Truffles.

The Oscar simulcast, which will begin at 5:30 p.m., will have no commercials.

It will be interrupted only for Burbank’s commentary and hawking of selected items from the auction.

During a commercial break, the celebration will pause for the film festival’s annual “Shameless Paddle Raise” to raise donations for the film festival, scheduled Sept. 25-27, as well as other events, scholarships and fellowships.

The film festival says on its website it already has received $35,000 from one donor and hopes to match that on Oscar night.

The best film will be announced at about 9 p.m.

All proceeds will support the film festival.
