SEQUIM — Model trains and everything needed for the hobby will be available at the 15th annual Train Show & Swap Meet this weekend.
The show, sponsored by the North Olympic Railroaders, will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road.
Admission is free.
The show features railroad items and memorabilia, model train layouts, some 18 vendor tables and door prizes.
On display will be the club’s 20-foot-by-15-foot display.
“That’s the main layout,” said Steve Stripp, club president.
The track is made of 14 sections bolted together.
“That’s how we can get such a big layout and make it transportable,” Stripp said.
Children’s train set
Children can run an electric train on a 12-foot-by-6-foot track.
Brio wooden trains will be available for the very young, Stripp said.
New this year will be a 9-foot-by-3-foot N-scale track.
Modeled after a Japanese bullet train, the track is about one-fourth the size of HO-scale, the most common scale.
Door prizes will be given away every hour.
Winners will be able to choose from a range of things for children and adults.
At the end of the train show Sunday afternoon will be the final drawing.
The winner will get a child’s HO-scale train set to put together.
The North Olympic Railroaders have some 30 members hailing from Port Angeles to Port Townsend.
The club meets at 3 p.m. the last Saturday of each month — except in December — at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.
“Don’t let the rain slow you down,” Stripp said. “Come anyway. We’re indoors.”
