WEEKEND: Homegrown talent returns for Port Angeles Symphony concerts starting tonight (Friday)

Tonight is Friday, May 9.

Music of Mozart and Pachelbel, along with Vivaldi’s “L’Estro Armonico Concerto,” will fill two concert spaces — in Port Angeles tonight and Sequim on Saturday night — as the Port Angeles Symphony hosts a pair of Homecoming Concerts.

Both performances showcase of musicians with local ties, from guest conductor Kristin Quigley Brye to 14-year-old Port Angeles Symphony violinist Kate Powers. And Cole Urnes, the Port Angeles High School senior who won first place in the Port Angeles Symphony’s Young Artists Competition earlier this year, will appear in tonight’s concert only.

Other Homecoming Concert artists to play both nights include violinists Selbey Jelle, Sabrina Scruggs, James Ray and Heather Ray; horn player Allison Tutton and pianist Lisa Lanza.

Together, the musicians will offer Mozart’s third Concerto for Horn in E-flat Major; Arthur Honegger’s “Pastorale d’été;” Pachelbel’s Kanon and Gigue; and the Vivaldi concerto for four violins and string orchestra. Still other works will be added and announced at the concerts.

Tonight’s performance will start at 7 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 E. Lopez Ave., Port Angeles, and Saturday’s will start at the same time at the Sequim Worship Center, 640 N. Sequim Ave. Admission to either is $12, while attendees 16 and younger will get in free when accompanied by an adult.

Tickets will be available at the door, though patrons who want to purchase in advance can visit Port Book and News, 104 E. First St., Port Angeles, or one of two Sequim locations: The Good Book/Joyful Noise Music Center at 108 W. Washington St. or Sequim Village Glass at 761 Carlsborg Road.

For more information and tickets, phone the Port Angeles Symphony office at 360-457-5579 or visit portangelessymphony.org.
