SEQUIM –– Some 75 suppliers of building, remodeling and energy-efficiency products will show off their latest and greatest at the North Peninsula Building Association’s 16th annual Building, Remodeling & Energy Expo this weekend.
The expo at Sequim High School, 601 N. Sequim Ave., will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
It will provide information for those planning to build or remodel, as well as opportunities for those planning to “green” up their homes, to hear from experts on site, said FaLeana Wech, executive officer for the building association.
‘New and exciting’
“There’s always new and exciting stuff,” Wech said.
Admission is free.
Last year’s show drew an estimated 3,000 people, Wech said, and more are expected this year.
Blake Tile and Stone is assembling a special landscaping display for entrance into the expo, which will be in two hall areas.
Drawings are planned for 3:30 p.m. each day for $250 gift certificates at Angeles Millwork and Hartnagel Building Supply.
It will not be necessary to be present to win.
Homes for Our Troops
Those who donate at the Homes for Our Troops booth at the show will be able to sign a 2-foot-by-6-foot board that will be used in a home when it is built for Marine Cpl. Ammon Lang of Port Angeles.
Lang, 24, lost both his legs in an improvised explosive device blast while on patrol in Afghanistan on June 11, 2011.
Through Homes for Our Troops — a nonprofit based in Taunton, Mass. — a home will be built for him near Port Angeles.
The North Olympic Building Association is coordinating the project with volunteer builders. The contractor will be Hines Construction of Sequim.
Another fundraiser will be for the Sequim High School Choral Program.
Choir students and boosters will serve pulled pork sandwiches and other food cooked in Everwarm Hearth and Home’s Big Green Egg, an outdoor cooker.
Seminars will feature tips on how to deal with noxious weeds, paint schemes and the dangers of lead paint, solar power, ductless heating pumps, birdhouse construction, selecting a builder and designing homes, xeriscaping, repurposing old household items and fertilizing and mulching.
Seminars are 45 minutes and are held in both areas of the expo.
Ten seminars
Ten seminars are scheduled Saturday between9:15 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and six are planned Sunday between 11:30 a.m. and 3:15 p.m.
The Clallam County Public Utility District is a capstone sponsor, while cornerstone sponsors are Angeles Millwork & Lumber Co., Hartnagel Building Supply, First Federal, Sequim Gazette, KSQM 91.5 FM radio and Built Green of Clallam County.
