Water main break affects about 40 Port Angeles homes

PORT ANGELES — A 20-inch water main broke late Saturday night, requiring a boil-water notice for about 40 homes in the Golf Course Road area south of Lauridsen Boulevard in Port Angeles.

Repairs began Sunday morning and were expected to be completed Sunday night.

Residents were notified that their homes would be without water or would experience low water pressure until repairs were completed.

While repairs were being made, traffic on Golf Course Road, South of Lindberg Road, was limited to one lane with a flagger.

Once water is restored, a precautionary boil-water notice will be advised for all homes affected by the break, according to the city public works department. Those homes should use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking, cooking, making ice and brushing teeth.

People should bring water to a rolling boil for 1 minute to kill bacteria and other organisms that may have been introduced into the water and let the water cool before using.

Tap water is safe for showering, bathing and for other household uses, including washing dishes in the dishwasher, as long as the heat/sanitizing cycle and commercial dishwashing detergent are used.

Following the repair, the water main will be disinfected and flushed, and the city will take water samples to ensure safety.

The Port Angeles Public Works department is expecting an update by Tuesday. If satisfactory test results are received, the precautionary boil water notice will be lifted. Affected homes will also be notified with door hangers.

People are not affected if they are a Clallam Public Utility District customer, their water was not shut off or if they did not experience low water pressure during the repair.
