BRINNON — Two Port Angeles men were taken to Jefferson Healthcare hospital in Port Townsend after a driver lost control of a pickup on a curve on U.S. Highway 101 near Brinnon.
Steven E. Champion, 72, was cited with driving too fast for conditions after his GMC pickup entered the curve on a wet downhill grade at milepost 302, spun out and struck a dirt embankment on the southbound shoulder at 10:12 a.m. Friday.
His condition and that of his passenger, Todd L. Thomson, 63, were not available on Sunday.
The pickup rolled partially onto its side and came to rest on its wheels in the northbound lane, which was partially blocked for two hours and 42 minutes, the State Patrol said.
Neither drugs nor alcohol were involved, troopers said.
Both people in the truck were wearing seat belts, they said.
The truck was completely destroyed, according to the State Patrol.
