OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — A 13-year-old girl suffering from possible stroke symptoms was airlifted out of the Hoh Lake area in Olympic National Park by Naval Air Station Whidbey Island personnel last week.
The crew was airborne and on scene at about 9:40 p.m. June 25. The girl and an adult guardian were taken to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles about an hour later, according to Naval Air Station Whidbey Island Public Affairs Officer Mike Welding in Oak Harbor.
Naval Air Station Whidbey Island search and rescue personnel have conducted 19 missions this year, including eight medevacs, nine rescues and two searches.
The Navy SAR unit operates three MH-60S helicopters from NAS Whidbey Island as search and rescue/medical evacuation (SAR/MEDEVAC) platforms for the EA-18G aircraft as well as other squadrons and personnel assigned to the installation.
