Tacoma man who accidentally shot self in Sequim Bay Park in satisfactory condition

SEQUIM — A 25-year-old Tacoma man who accidentally shot himself in the abdomen at Sequim Bay State Park on Tuesday is in satisfactory condition after undergoing surgery at Olympic Medical Center, authorities said today.

Nickolas Authur went to a vehicle to retrieve something and accidentally shot himself with a .22 rifle at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said.

People camping that night told authorities that they heard a “pop, turned around and the guy was on the ground,” Sheriff’s Office Detective Sgt. Lyman Moores said.

Authur was among four men camping at the park while on the North Olympic Peninsula doing construction, the Sheriff’s Office said.

He is expected to fully recover.

Authur was in satisfactory condition as of noon today, Olympic Medical Center spokeswoman Jodie Jones said.
