SUNDAY — Church services, Jewish celebrations, today and this week

Unity service

PORT ANGELES — Unity in the Olympics, 2917 E. Myrtle St., will hold a 10:30 a.m. service Sunday with guest speaker the Rev. Deborah Brandt.

Her lesson will be “Affirmation Power.”

Brandt will discuss training oneself to believe what one is telling oneself to believe.

A picnic potluck will follow.

Free child care is available during the 10:30 a.m. service.

A time for silent meditation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

All are welcome.

Back to Church

PORT ANGELES — Hillcrest Baptist Church, 205 Black Diamond Road, will hold a Back to Church day of celebration beginning at 9:45 a.m. Sunday.

Sunday school for all ages starts it off, followed by an 11 a.m. church service.

The event concludes with a picnic (hot dogs, hamburgers, salad and dessert) and fellowship.

All are welcome.

Jewish celebrations

AGNEW — Congregation Olympic B’nai Shalom invites all Jews to celebrate the High Holidays for 5775.

Student Rabbi Dusty Klass, a Seattle native, will lead services.

Services will be held at Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 73 Howe Road.

Services are as follows:

■ Wednesday, Sept. 24, Erev Rosh Hashanah — Setup, 5 p.m.; potluck dinner, 6 p.m.; services, 7:15 p.m.

■ Thursday, Sept. 25, Rosh Hashanah — Sunrise Service at City Pier, 6:40 a.m. (7:05 a.m. sunrise); breakfast following sunrise service at Port Angeles Crabhouse Restaurant, 221 N. Lincoln St.; morning service, 10 a.m., led by Rabbi Dusty Klass; Bagel & Lox Oneg, noon, with cleanup to follow; Tashlich, 2:30 p.m. at Railroad Bridge Park (bring bread crumbs).

■ Friday, Oct. 3, Erev Yom Kippur — Setup, 6:30 p.m.; Kol Nidre service, 7 p.m.

■ Saturday, Oct. 4, Yom Kippur — Morning service, 10 a.m.; Torah study, 2 p.m., led by Sandy Goldstien; afternoon service, 3:30 p.m., with Yizkor, Neilah, Havdalah, Break the Fast Dairy Potluck and cleanup to follow.

Healing service

PORT ANGELES — A nondenominational service of healing will take place at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 510 E. Park Ave., at 7 p.m. Thursday.

All are welcome.

The simple service of prayer music and light brings people together to ask God to bring healing (body, mind or spirit) to themselves, their families, their community, the Earth or the nations of the Earth.

Laying on of hands and anointing will be offered.
