JOYCE — Most high school girls spend time dreaming of being crowned homecoming queen.
But not Eva Vanova.
Vanova, an exchange student from Bratislava, Slovakia, never heard of homecoming before this fall. In fact, she didn’t even know what homecoming was until a month ago.
Today, that’s changed.
Vanova — pronounced “Von-u-va” — was crowned Crescent High School homecoming queen late Saturday night.
“I was really surprised,” Vanova, 18, said Sunday, a day after her coronation and a night of fine dining and energetic dancing. “We don’t have anything like this (in Slovakia).”
Vanova called homecoming her “first minute of fame.”
Everybody was taking pictures, she said.
