PORT ANGELES — Work on a sewage pipe plug-up at Marine Drive and Cedar Street will close the intersection today starting at 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. Thursday.
No through traffic will be permitted, James Burke, public works assistant director of operations, said this morning.
About 15-20 feet of the 4-inch pipe appears to be backed up.
“We’re assuming the pipe is collapsed and broken,” Burke said, estimating the repairs will cost less than $30,000.
“We’ll repair the pipe tonight,” Burke said.
Tomorrow, Lakeside [Industries] will pave it back.”
The repairs are not related to the city’s newly installed $47 million combined sewer overflow project.
Public works director Craig Fulton said city officials were pushing to complete the project before the upcoming July 4 holiday weekend.
“We’re going to get down there and fix whatever is wrong,” Fulton said.
Questions regarding this project should be directed to public works Field Superintendent Jason Hart, 360-417-4855.
