OLYMPIA — It could be several weeks before a Thurston County Superior Court judge rules on a land-use case challenging the construction of a Wal-Mart “superstore” in the city’s west end.
Judge Thomas McPhee heard two hours of argument Friday in Olympia, where the case was filed last September by citizens group Sequim First.
McPhee was the second Superior Court judge in three days to hear an appeal by Sequim First that seeks a court-ordered environmental impact statement on a large retail development.
He was asked to consider an appeal for a Wal-Mart development near the intersection of West Washington Street and River Road.
The trial followed Tuesday’s appeal in Clallam County Superior Court challenging the city’s permitting of a regional shopping center named Sequim Village Marketplace, targeted for a 42-acre site just south of the planned Wal-Mart.
McPhee indicated Friday he had read most of the record in the Wal-Mart case, which allowed him to pose specific questions to counsel for all three parties.
