FORKS – The Quillayute Valley School District hopes to float a bond issue among voters in February to rebuild aging and leaky Forks High School. But district officials are rethinking their plans because a movie might be filmed using the 1920s-era high school building as a location.
Whether the movie based on the best-selling teen novel Twilight is filmed in Forks remains to be seen.
But a series of School Board and community meetings will be held in the next couple of months to examine alternate plans instead of gutting the building, Quillayute Valley School District Superintendent Diana Reaume said.
The School Board decided Sept. 25 to put the bond issue on the February ballot.
Because of the change in plans, the total of the proposed bond, originally about $15 million, is in flux.
At a meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in the district’s Auto Tech Center meeting room, 382 S. Forks Ave., the board will review the schedule for the bond issue as well as plan community meetings to discuss the future of the school building – including its possibility of Hollywood stardom.
