Propane, oxygen found in exploded home

Authorities: Identity of man killed in blast unconfirmed

SEQUIM — Propane, oxygen and other welding supplies are suspected to have triggered the explosion which destroyed a house in Sequim on Tuesday evening, killing one person and damaging nearby homes.

The cause of the ignition is not known, and likely won’t be determined because of the extent of the explosion, according to Clallam County Sheriff’s Office Chief Criminal Deputy Amy Bundy of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

“There’s no suspicion of foul play,” Bundy said.

The identity of the person killed in the explosion won’t be confirmed until after the county coroner’s report is filed, Bundy said, and though the investigation is still open until that report is submitted, officials don’t expect any additional information to come out.

Clallam County Deputy Coroner Natalya Stadler said the autopsy on the deceased person took place Friday, but could not say when the report would be submitted.

The home at 132 June Place in Sequim was destroyed in an explosion early Tuesday evening, and local authorities called in the support of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to assist in the investigation. The ATF indicated the incident was accidental, the sheriff’s office said Thursday in a press release.
