Possible plans to replace Mountain View pool in Port Townsend

There are two possibilities for a new aquatics and wellness center at Mountain View Commons in Port Townsend, and both would require voter approval. They include:

Basic Plan

• Six-lane, 25-yard pool

• Recreation pool with lazy river

• Whirlpool and dry sauna

• Birthday party room

• Six outdoor pickleball courts

• Group exercise room

• Men’s, women’s and universal changing rooms

Cost estimate: $37.1 million

Annual operational cost estimate:

Expenses: $1.27 million

Revenues: $840,000

*City subsidy: $430,000

Full Build-out

• Basic Plan plus a multi-use space and gymnasium

Cost estimate: $45.9 million

Annual operational cost estimate:

Expenses: $2.08 million

Revenues: $1.73 million

*City subsidy: $350,000*

*The city of Port Townsend subsidizes Mountain View pool at $400,000 annually; the YMCA, which manages it, contributes another $400,000.
