PORT TOWNSEND: Week of tall ship seminars planned for September

PORT TOWNSEND — Designers, architects and boat builders who stand tall in the Tall Ships regatta will present a symposium on building and operating the vessels during the 25th annual Wooden Boat Festival in September.

The Tall Ships Symposium will be a day-long event held the Thursday before the three-day festival set for Sept. 7 to 9 at Point Hudson. It will also be the culmination of the workshop-filled week leading up to the festival.

The Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding will offer a slate of demonstrations and classes including woodworking, ship’s carpentry, rigging, bosunry, navigation, seamanship, sailmaking and blacksmithing.

The Boatbuilding Symposium, Sept. 1 to 6, provides wooden boat sailors a chance to learn skills during one- to three-day workshops.
