PORT TOWNSEND — The City Council will take up a proposed comprehensive plan amendment next Monday that de-emphasizes the role of Glen Cove in future city development.
The Glen Cove industrial area has long been a bone of contention between managed-growth and pro-growth camps in Port Townsend, even though Jefferson County officials have the final say on its long-term designation.
At issue in the amendment is whether Glen Cove should be included in the city’s comprehensive plan if it is situated outside of city limits and is not in Port Townsend’s urban growth area.
Planning Commission members voted 3-1 Tuesday to keep references to Glen Cove in the city plan, but to address concerns raised by managed-growth advocate John Lockwood of People for a Livable Community.
