PORT TOWNSEND — A local mother wants parents to know the local high school can send personal information about their teenagers to military recruiters.
Liz Rivera Goldstein released a statement Thursday notifying other parents Port Townsend High School is handing information about children that may include names, telephone numbers and ages.
“This is definitely an issue of protecting students’ rights,” she said.
Last year, the School District sent personal information about graduating seniors to the U.S. Army, Superintendent Carol Andreasen confirmed Thursday.
That’s just the type of release Goldstein wants parents to know about in advance.
Goldstein said she and her supporters are going to be taking up the issue with the School Board during next Monday’s meeting.
