Port Townsend: Let the games begin — it’s Kinetic Skulpture Race day!

For Daniel Smith of Port Townsend, a satellite dish, an inflated truck tire tube and a bicycle all covered in silver spray paint was his ticket to ride.

Kinetic craziness came to Port Townsend on Saturday with the start of the 19th annual Great Port Townsend Bay Kinetic Sculpture Race.

The event continues today.

More than 15 homemade, human powered sculptures — some looking like aliens, butterflies, and UFOs — paraded through downtown and got their first tests on land and sea in Port Townsend’s wackiest event of the year.
