PORT TOWNSEND — There were no high-profile cases on the Jefferson County Superior Court docket Friday afternoon.
But nearly every seat in the courtroom was filled to honor Judge Thomas Majhan, who died of cancer last weekend.
County Administrator David Goldsmith, choked with emotion, eulogized Majhan during the 10-minute memorial meant to help county employees find closure.
A public memorial service is planned Saturday in the new Fort Worden State Park Commons from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Majhan was diagnosed in January with cancer of the lungs and back, and was undergoing chemotherapy when he died Sunday at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Bremerton.
“You told us not to have this gathering,” Goldsmith said, repeating Majhan’s wish not to be memorialized after his death.
“But this is not for you, Tom, it’s for me.”
