PORT TOWNSEND — Golfers seemed united under one battle cry Thursday night: Leave the Port Townsend Municipal Golf Course alone.
That sentiment, directed at the city and a group attempting to build a performing and visual arts center, seemed to be shared by a majority of about 175 people packed into the Fort Worden State Parks Commons for a community meeting on the future of the golf course and the theater-gallery proposal.
At one point in the evening, about 90 percent of the audience raised its hands when resident Dale Bidlake asked who was in favor of keeping the municipal Port Townsend Golf Club open.
“I’m not anti-art,” he told the panel of arts center and city representatives.
“I’m very pro-golf.”
